We’re not sure if this is a hoax or “fake news” coming from the Russian Premier League but we certainly want a little bit of whatever they’ve been smoking at FC Rostov.
FC Rostov have become the world’s favourite Russian football club after the release of their highly original 4th kit based on a supporter’s lucky rug.
The magic carpet kit was released after a fan brought an old rug along to the Rostov Arena after deciding he had no room for it at home and inspired his club to victory.

After FC Rostov hit four goals past FC Yenisey Krasnoyarsk without reply to go 4th in the table, the superstitious club released a shirt in tribute to their lucky new symbol.
As fourth choice kit, the magic carpet shirts may never actually be worn, but they have become hugely popular online since the club made them available for pre-order at the bargain price of just 2500 roubles per shirt (less than £30).
Publicity wise, FC Rostov’s new shirts have drawn global attention and will draw a cult following among football kit enthusiasts.
It seems there’s a growing race to corner the market in crap kits with clubs actively trying to out do each other in the battle for the title of worst kit of all-time.
Whether they were on the Persian rugs or not, FC Rostov have put themselves on the map and will hope this magic carpet kit will see them fly up the table and into European competition.
