Bristol City have received a modern take on one of the game’s great goalkeeper shirts for the 2020-21 season.
Bristol City and Hummel are in the first year of what looks to be a fruitful new partnership after the club moved on from producing kits under their own Bristol Sport banner.
The Robins’ 2020-21 home ‘keeper kit is an update of the iconic Hummel shirt worn by Peter Schmeichel in Demark’s unlikely Euro’ 92 triumph.

The Manchester United legend may not have played for Bristol City, and their keeper David Bentley may not have even been born when the Danes upset the odds to taste European Championships glory in 1992; but that doesn’t mean Hummel should stop anyone from playing out their schoolyard Schmeichel fantasies.
The Great Dane was one of the most imposing keepers of his generation and his commanding performances in Hummel’s early 90s design have made those shirts iconic.

How do you even begin to describe them?
Well, it’s as if we’re all crashing the last stages of a wedding disco where we can only look on from behind a fence.

City’s away keeper kit is equally ready to rave, in a fresh fluorescent pink, which like the Ashton Gate club’s purple and lime green away kit and all the training wear we’ve seen so far, features the words “BRISTOL CITY” written in semaphore on the inside of the collar.
That’s nautical. Proper nautical.

New sponors Mansion Bet (who replace fellow casino site Dunder) feature across both the home and away goalkeeper kits, which are available for pre-order from the Robins’ online store now.
We’re delighted to see that the shirts are available in adult sizes and relieved to see that they are offered in the more casual short-sleeved form.

There’s psychology around loud shirts being worn between the sticks and these two distracting tops give the effect of chucking a handful of highlighter pens right in the faces of oncoming strikers.
We can’t confirm, but we suspect that in these strange times of lockdown and social distancing, with the rainbow being used to bring hope of brighter days to come; this vibrant strip from Hummel’s back catalogue was suggested to Bristol City as being the perfect shirt for it’s time.
Who are we to argue?
If you want to play out your own Peter Schmeichel fantasies (we’re not judging), the Bristol City’s home and away keeper kits are available for pre-order from the Robins’ online store now.
