Umbro gave Brentford a special gift to to mark their move to a new home at the start of the 2020-21 season.
OK, on first glance it’s a plain white shirt, but that rather ignores the story behind the design and the inspiration source for the detail on the cuffs.

The trim of these shirts features the claret, salmon and blue colours of the rowing club that gave birth to Brentford Football Club.
Back in 1889, Brentford Rowing Club asked their members if they thought giving football a go might be a jolly good idea, and held a vote to determine whether they should try the round ball game or rugby.

As always, football was the winner and the Brentford Football Club was founded.
The Bees initially played in the colours of their rowing club mates, and as they moved to a new beginning at their new home at the start of the season, Umbro gave them this little moving-in present.

It’s rare we get so excited about cuffs and trim details but this discreet and knowing little nod to the club’s past is a fine flourish from Umbro.
Perhaps Umbro could have applied these colours in a band across the chest or shoulders, but sometimes less is more and this is a subtly smart shirt for the Bees’ first season in their new home.
