Our latest Kit of the Week belongs to Glasgow and a team of friends, yet to kick a football, but with a set of custom-made shirts the envy of many a professional outfit.
Glasgow Wellington nicknamed the Dukes, were founded in April of this year by a group of auld mates who met flipping burgers 10 years ago and bonded through a shared love of football.
The boys will eventually be joined by a team of players with experience ranging from ex-pro and semi-pro players, to teammates who until now have spent their Saturdays watching football from the terraces.

The Dukes are yet to train together, yet to play a competitive match in the Strathclyde Saturday Morning Amateur League, but already boast a fully-customised kit to be proud of.
Rather than just pick-up a template kit from the back of a major brand’s teamwear catalogue, the Dukes’ turned to Edinburgh firm Appin Sports, giving them a brief to make a shirt that captured the self-confident, Gallus spirit of the city.
Both the home and away shirts in white and black will feature a sublimated map of Glasgow, with the city’s skyline wrapped around each of the cuffs.
But the stand-out feature has to be that traffic cone badge!

The club are named after Britain’s hero of the Napoleonic wars, the Duke of Wellington, whose statue outside of the city’s Gallery of Modern Art, can regularly be found with a traffic cone on his “heid.”
What probably began as a drunken prank in the early-1980s has endured to become a celebrated monument to the Glaswegian sense of humour, and despite their best efforts; every time the council takes one cone off the Duke’s head, another one has taken its place.
The rebellious symbol of Glasgow has become a recognised landmark and the perfect badge for the start-up club.

As the club were formed during the Covid-19 crisis, the Dukes have launched their kit with the aim of being a force for good, and will donate £5 from each shirt sold to the NHS and the Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity.
The club will also be working with Glasgow based Men Matter FC throughout their first season to help raise funds and awareness for the men’s health charity.

The shirts remind us of the series of Nike shirts that featured satellite images of the areas clubs called home, from London to Barcelona and Istanbul.
We absolutely love these playfully confident shirts that capture the spirit of the city, and if your heart already belongs to Glasgow Wellington, you can buy their shirts via the club’s website – glasgowwellingtonfc.co.uk.
