Is it growing on you yet?
Tottenham Hotspur handed a Premier League debut to their out of this world away shirt over the weekend, as Dele Alli’s penalty gave them a win on the road at Wolves.
This design is even more far-out and trippier, than former fullback Kieran Trippier.
The North London club’s cosmic change strip twists the very fabric of time and space and in this case, made from 100% recycled polyester.
Nike then crash “venom green” details headlong into the swirling colours to bring an altogether explosive alternative to what might ordinarily have been a standard black away strip.
The dark matter continues to the black shorts and socks to complete a kit it’s fair to say is not going to be to everyone’s taste.
Tottenham say the new kit puts “future creators at the heart of its design” with the expressive print representing “collective creativity from local minds.”
There’s no mention of black holes or nebulae in the release materials which perhaps leaves the shirt’s true inspiration open to interpretation.
The shock and awe of the release split Spurs fans between those who loved it and those who openly asked what on Earth Nike thought they were smoking?
Away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, football shirt enthusiasts marvelled at a design so good they’d snap it up if it wasn’t for the Spurs badge on the left side of the chest.
With the intergalactic burst of dust settling after that first away win, we this is well on its way to becoming a future cult classic and fans’ favourite.
This is not a shirt aimed at the average Tottenham Hotspur season ticket holder. The classically clean lillywhite home shirt is designed with them in mind.
This is a shirt for the little boys and girls who fell in love with football over Euro 2020 and may now be falling in love with football shirts, gazing on this in wide-eyed wonder and pestering parents for a piece of kit they’ll still cherish many years from now.
It’s Spurs Jim, but not as we know it!
